Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is your program?
123 Tuition
is a highly structured, user friendly, online teaching system specifically created to support the New Zealand curriculum.

123 Tuition provides a genuine and cost-effective solution for parents to the challenge of meeting and fulfilling their child’s individual educational needs, particularly in numeracy & literacy.

123 Tuition’s unique initial assessment process identifies each child’s current ability level (based upon what they actually know and don’t know), from which, their very own personalised Study Plan is created, tailored to meet their individual needs.

123 Tuition then uses short video tutorials to teach each lesson, which is taught in the exact same way your children are taught in school, accessed online and from the comfort of your own home.

123 Tuition provides extra supportive worksheets to further consolidate the teaching and monitors a complete and thorough understanding of each lesson, before moving onto the next.

123 Tuition also provides ‘real-time’ direct access to teacher help via telephone on a freephone number or through our ‘Silverboard’ virtual classroom.

123 Tuition is supported by a complete management and reporting system, for both students and parents, so that progress can be totally monitored and easily accessed.

123 Tuition is all about engaging, educating and assisting children, along the path to academic success, to be the very best they can be, whatever that level may be, without any pressure or embarrassment.

At 123 Tuition we know every parent wants to help their child to perform well and enjoy school, but we also know for many, academic success doesn’t always come easily… 123 Tuition really can help.

How much does the program cost?

The cost of the programme varies from family to family. The reason for this is that each programme is structured around each family’s particular circumstances. Therefore depending on the number of children in the family, their ages, current ability levels and how much, or little, of the programme is relevant for each family, the costs will vary quite considerably.

Whilst families can start as low as just $29.95 per week, as a general guide, you’ll find most families are paying somewhere between $35 and $40 per week – this includes both Maths and English – for all the children in the family – this is not the cost per child. Now, depending on the family’s requirements, some families will be paying more and some will be paying less than the average.

Families have the choice to purchase their programme outright, or alternatively, may choose the monthly payments plan option.

If you have done some research, you will have already discovered that private tutors are currently costing around $60 per hour, per subject, per child. So, if you have two children needing help with Maths and English, you can very quickly see how cost-effective the 123 Tuition programme is.

What is the curriculum?

How does the 123 Tuition programme support the New Zealand curriculum?

The 123 Tuition programme is based on the requirements of the Curriculum for maths and English.

The 123 Tuition programme provides short, clear lessons written and presented by highly qualified professionals.

The 123 Tuition programme is specifically designed to support and consolidate learning for children from Foundation year 12.

123 Tuition provides home-based tuition and support for children aged between 4 and 16 and can represent a far more cost effective alternative to private maths tutors for learning maths and English tutors for learning English or Centre based alternatives.

Does 123 Tuition support the curriculum?

Yes, 123 Tuition is 100% aligned to the New Zealand curriculum. 123 Tuition can help parents understand in more detail the content and practices of the education system, in primary intermediate and high schools across New Zealand.

How is 123 Tuition different to a private tutor?

123 Tuition is very different because it can not only provide exactly what a private tutor can provide but it can deliver much, much more… and at a fraction of the cost!

123 Tuition is accessible as a complete year group of teaching, lessons, exams and support up front.

123 Tuition will be available to you 24 hours a day, every day, for all the children in your family to use again and again, as much as they need to and in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

We recognise that very few parents may be able to afford this level of support from a private tutor.

Other benefits that 123 Tuition provides:

  • Totally fits in with family life
  • 100% aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum
  • Can help develop parents knowledge on teaching methods used in schools today
  • Boosts your children’s confidence and enthusiasm for school work
  • Individual programmes for every child, based on their specific strengths and weaknesses
  • Builds a solid foundation for academic success
  • Lets your children work at their own pace with no peer pressure
  • Provides teacher support when it’s needed most

How long will 123 Tuition last?

123 Tuition is year topic and group based and contains everything your child would cover in any specific year of school. 123 Tuition combines both multiple topics and year groups together, to create a tailored programme based on your child’s individual strengths and weaknesses and would normally take them through to a specific stage.

The length of time it takes to complete an 123 Tuition programme is, of course, dependant on how many topics and year groups you choose to purchase. However, this is again dependent on each family’s particular circumstances and will vary considerably depending on the number of children in a family, their ages and current achievement levels.

Can we stop and restart using 123 Tuition any time?

Yes. You purchase 123 Tuition outright, so it’s yours to use as you feel appropriate, although we would strongly recommend introducing a regular study routine for each child to get the very best from your 123 Tuition programme.

Children should, on average, watch one or two lessons a week, but if they need to stop for a brief period such as a family holiday, that’s fine. Although, please remember that your 123 Tuition is specifically there to help your children improve and ultimately reach their full learning potential.

If you have chosen the 123 Tuition subscription option then, subject to the notice period, you can completely stop using it and then re-start again subject to your requirements, but again we would stress that 123 Tuition is specifically there to help children improve and ultimately reach their full learning potential and erratic study habits would be detrimental to the effects of any tuition provided.

Is everything explained clearly and accurately to parents?

Our Course Advisors explain everything about 123 Tuition extremely clearly and accurately as part of the initial assessment visit, including how it all works, which parts would be suitable for the family, the costs and other alternative options.

Am I expected to help my child with their 123 Tuition work at home?

YES if you want to and NO if you don’t. Many parents choose to watch the 123 Tuition lessons with their children but older children can watch the lessons and complete the exercises on their own.

You do not NEED to help your child with 123 Tuition, as the unique learning management system will do all the marking, monitoring and re-scheduling of work for your child and report back to you fully with all the progress being made.

However, it is paramount that you continually encourage your children to use 123 Tuition, which is why the reporting system is so easy for parents to access and use,

By being able to quickly and easily keep track of your children’s progress and provide them with the support and praise they will thrive on, you will help boost your children’s confidence and motivate them to move onto the next lesson.

I’ve heard some schools send some information out about 123 Tuition – why is this?

These days, parents often seek additional private tuition or further support for their children and from time to time approach their children’s school for guidance. Many schools have passed on information about 123 Tuition, which they feel may be helpful to some parents.

Can I receive further information about 123 Tuition?

Of course you can. However, as 123 Tuition uses audio visual teaching methods combined with cutting edge technology to deliver the teaching and support direct to your family home, our advice is always that it really needs to be seen and experienced first hand in order to be certain that it is right for you and your family.

Rest assured, our trained and professional Course Advisors can visit at a time that’s convenient for you and can demonstrate and explain 123 Tuition in the completely pressure-free environment of your own home.
